Mecklenburg

Frohe Weihnachten!

She was born in autumn 75
She never new what parents loving was
The child of sacrifice, child of abuse
Another daughter who grew up
Behind the bars of Mecklenburg

She ran away from home to wed this older man
Followed his rules, gave birth to boys she loved
The only way to live was drown the hate
Her dreams as mother were so much blurred
And such was life in Mecklenburg

I was born in ’61
They built the wall – devided us
We were greedy_money_folks – they communists
Suddenly we were enemies
As cold war kids we learned the drill
The reds are bad – they only wanna kill
Haven’t they heard we won the war
What do they keep on fighting for?

She ran again to flee from her leaden cage
She raised her kids and worked hard every single day
The greatest happiness she’d ever found
Was making all her children heard
And the children lived in Mecklenburg

I used to live in that bordertown
Saw the iron curtain stand so safe and sound
Until that magic day suddenly came around
When they demolished the wall and tore it down
And in that bright November sun
We hoped cold war was definitely and finally gone
It took thirty years to end these dreams
Evil’s back again – and new wars are real

Now all our kids and we live in this place
No enemies, eye to eye and face to face
We see them all grow up – and live in peace
We never knew that friends we were
Until we came to Mecklenburg
